Netflix and...Study? Managing Digital Distractions

Date: Monday March 25, 2019

Time: 3-4 pm

Location: BN304 (Clara Benson Building, 320 Huron St)

Workshop Size: 25 students
Facilitator: Jacquelyn Laurenda, Learning Strategist

In today's hyper-connected world, the biggest distraction we face is not in fact digital, but biological: our brains have to fight against the urge to check Instagram, play video games, or binge on Netflix rather than concentrate on a given task. In this workshop we will discuss the science behind what's happening in your brain when you multitask, "procrasti-text," or find yourself sucked into a vortex of screen time whenever you sit down to study. More importantly, you'll discover that you are not at the mercy of your brain's default setting: we'll discuss strategies for hacking your own "wiring" in order to establish a relationship with technology that works for you, not against you.
